What is Hypnotherapy?

“What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.”

Plutarch

Hypnotherapy is a safe, reliable and recognised therapy often used alongside or as an alternative to drugs and medication, however it is often widely misunderstood!

When most people think of hypnosis most people imagine a performer, a Svengali type of ‘magician’ or a theatrical entertainer carrying out their act on stage for the amusement of the crowd.  This usually involves a person from the audience being mesmerized, put under a spell, and being instructed to carry out silly or embarrassing actions with no conscious idea of what they are doing, with no will of their own. This is a total fallacy.

The truth is, the participants are completely aware of what they are doing, they are in full control of all their faculties.

  • They could stop, wake up (although they are not really asleep, just relaxed) at any time.
  • They can decide not to comply with the commands of the performer.
  • They could even choose to do the opposite if they wanted to.

Just about everybody who is not under the influence, can accept the state of hypnosis.  In fact we are in a state of hypnosis when doing things like driving a car, watching TV or reading a good book, so you see everybody is capable of going into this heightened state of trance. Hypnosis is a healing method which directly interacts with your subconscious mind, giving it clear, beneficial instructions in order to recharge and alert it to respond to issues with a more positive outlook. Being in the state of hypnosis is a rather pleasant, relaxing experience. Once there, your subconscious mind remains alert and responsive to the hypnotherapists suggestions.

How does it work?

Within the safe environment of my consulting room you will be able to detach yourself from the hubbub and pressure of your everyday life, while still being aware of what’s going on around you. You simply choose to ignore any distractions for the time being. You remain in complete control. You see our subconscious minds , or our control centres, have carried our limiting beliefs, fears and phobias, anxieties, PTSD, OCD, and addictive behaviours for a very long time.

Hypnosis can help you in a number of ways. It will,
